Abstract
Sixty-eight patients were operated upon for intestinal obstruction due to adhesion between the dates Jan. 1971 to Dec. 1975.
These observations were noted;
1. Thirty-five patients, (51,5% were between 41 to 60 years of age. Thirty-eight patients were male, 30 female.
2. The commonest operations prior- to the obstruction were appendectomy 17 patients or 22.6% gastrectomy,1-3 patients or 17.6%; ficlosure.of perforated bowel, 7 patients or 9.4%; bowel resection, 6 patients or 8.2%;,previous operation for adhesive obstruction, 5 patients or 6.7% and biliary surgery, 5 patients or 6.7%.
3. Fifty-three patients (75%) became obstructed with in 4 years of the last operation. 4. All of the patients were easily diagnosed by history physical examination and simple erect abdominal x-ray (62 patients).

Among the 68 patients, 9(14%) had strangulation of bowel in addition to obstruction, and symptoms were more severe in these patients, Seven patients (10.3%) had acid-base 1derang-ement, 4 with metabolic alkalosis, and 3 with metabolic acidosis. Three patients (4.5%) had colonic as well as well as small bowel obstruction.
6. Five patients (7%) had Noble or Child¢¥s plication with good results. In five other patients Tong tube incubation and plicatiori was used, also with good results. The other patients had simple division of the obstructing adhesion complications including 3 with recurrent obstruction, 2, with wound infection, 2 with refractory acid-base imbalance, and two laceration of the bowel at operation:
